Becoming aware of our mental maps in a dynamic territory

REGISTER HERE

Dear friends and colleagues,

We are excited to invite you to this critical on-line webinar with the Holos-Earth Project. With Yingzhao Liu we’ll explore the mindsets behind the great currents of this century—the confluence of the East and West, technology as a massive force shaping our future, and disastrous changes in our environment.

The currents challenges us to relinquish previous worldviews and boundaries. Transforming these worldviews has always seemed to be about transcending materialist, ‘win-lose’ paradigms that clearly caused great suffering and environmental catastrophe. Alfred Korzybski (below) introduced the notion that “…the ‘map’ is not the ‘territory’”.

With the Holos-Earth Project we are exploring those ‘maps’, intent on transforming them to the holistic perspective . Surely nothing can be more important at this time.

Technology: saviour or demon?

As we recently examined in a previous on-line webinar, AI and the future of humanity, technology, with its great complexity, can now be described as becoming conscious. Though maybe not self-aware, our presenter, Yingzhao, suggests it will continue to evolve faster than humans, and warns:

“As a consequence, our human psyche is not effective in dealing with its ways of manipulation.”

Yingzhao argues that whilst it does seem that we’re not in control of what we have created, nevertheless its applications are our children. She presents this provocative question:

“How can we get beyond seeing our tech as being ‘other’, as we did for ‘nature’ and, of course, for ‘far-away cultures’ in the previous century? How can we begin to regard technology as part of our own consciousness?”

Integration to help understand ‘holism’

Yingzhao offers ‘integration’ as another word to help us understand ‘Holism’, suggesting:

“Whilst on the surface of things, there is a lot of complexity, at depth things are very simple.”

She will present the case that we can practice and live from that depth, responding with vitality and simplicity in each moment, and experiencing coherent action individually and collectively.

In our interactive conversation we’ll share with each other how we might put this attitude and perspective into our daily practices.

Our presenter: Yingzhao Liu

Yingzhao Liu is currently founder of ‘Original Mind Residency’, a creative retreat project in the Cascade mountains outside of Seattle, a strategist for the network leadership organization ‘Converge for Impact’, and an advisor at Conscious Consulting Group. She has recently been lecturer at Stanford University and is design director for international markets at LinkedIn.

Her practice integrates deep spiritual practice with our complex modern life. Drawing from Zen Buddhism as well as the Native American path, Ying supports others on their journey of inner and outer transformation by shifting consciousness to deeper levels. She also leads experiential education for American students in Asia, for a pioneering company called ‘Where There Be Dragons’. Ying is native to mainland China. She came to the United States at age 18 where, at home in liminal spaces, she eventually found her tribe of global citizens, artists, and quiet revolutionaries who live in both the modern and the timeless.
