Webinar: What is our constructed environment doing to us as a species? Exploring a model of human ecology for the future.
Thursday 10th November 2022 @ 6:30pm London
Humanity has left an unprecedented footprint in this so-called ‘Anthropocene’ owing to our man-made constructed environment and the impact on the natural environment of our resource extraction and waste. Not only has our constructed environment impacted nature, but it has also fundamentally impacted human social organisation at the cost of meaningful experience.
Our presenter and conversation guide, Llewellyn van Wyk, a specialist in innovative building technologies and nature-based solutions, will argue for a holistic model to inform our thinking about future human development, especially human habitat. In the Holos-Earth project we find this of particular significance since evolutionary ‘human becoming’ is our overarching arena of exploration.

With Llewellyn van Wyk, we will examine a model of human ecology sitting conceptually at the centre of three overlapping domains:
- the natural environment
- the internal subjective human societal environment, and
- the constructed environment.
In this interactive webinar, we will begin to explore the interface between policymaking around future habitat ‘design’ and local (community/neighbourhood-based) self-organisation.
Together, we will ponder whether the focus on human ecology, as will be suggested, might provide the context for re-imagining an organismic form of economy that enables regenerative living systems as the milieu for future human becoming.
